Kuang Keng Kuek Ser, Founder of DataN

Kuek Ser Kuang Keng is an award-winning digital journalist. He is also the founder of DataN, a training program that lowers the barrier for newsrooms and journalists with limited resources to integrate data journalism into daily reporting. DataN has helped publications like Foreign Policy, NK News and Malaysiakini to strengthen their storytelling with data, visual and interactive components.
 
Keng has more than 10 years of experience in digital journalism. He was a journalist with Malaysiakini for 8 years specializing in investigative and political reporting. He produced over 3,500 news reports during the period.  In 2013, he was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to further his studies at New York University's Studio 20, a journalism M.A. program that focuses on new media and digital innovation. In 2015, Keng was selected as a Google Journalism Fellow and a Tow-Knight Fellow. He has worked in several US newsrooms including NBC, Foreign Policy, PRI.org and the International Business Times.

​In addition, he has extensive experience in social media management, research, election monitoring and translation. Keng produces data and interactive data visualization and is involved in many projects. 
​Keng’s skills and experience include – effectively using data journalism tools and processes, consulting on data-driven projects and data visualizations. He has also developed innovative solutions to address and solve problems faced by digital newsrooms. In addition, he is experienced in breaking news, live coverage of news, investigative reporting, citizen journalism and research. His passion is in combining his experience in reporting and storytelling with technology to produce sustainable and better journalism products. In this training, he will impart his knowledge and skills to participants from newsrooms with a step by step process and systematic road map. Be sure to join us in this workshop!
